The smallest known number for the 1 franc (Treasury Army ) type 1917 (Reference: Fayette-Dessal: VF03.01 or Pick: M02) is now No. 0,000,763 in VF grade. The banknote is currently offered at a price of €250 by a merchant-collector. The previous smaller note N ° 0.000,946 and in VF grade also, had been proposed at the price of €20 at cgb.fr, Banknotes # 47 of 2007 (lot # 3472019).

12 years later, I'm not sure that the price (multiplied by 12) is really justified for this new smaller number ... because there are still potentially 762 banknotes even smaller!

Saturday, April 13, i was at the "Paper Money Fair" in Valkenburg. During the day, a friend collector informed me that a note of 50 Francs (Franco-Belgian Railways Administration in occupied German territory, RCFTO) type 1923 (Reference: Pirot # JP-135-09, Pick # P.R9 or Rosenberg # 863a) was offered for sale by a professional seller at a price of € 1,800.00. This is the 13th banknote known for the Type, but only the 10th note for the alphabet "A.1".

This banknote is numbered A.1 - 039.225 and is in XF/AU grade. It is therefore the most beautiful copy known to date in the FBOW inventory.

Samedi 13 avril, j'étais au salon "Paper Money Fair" de Valkenburg. C'est le 13e billet connu pour le Type, mais seulement le 10e billet pour l'alphabet "A.1".

La coupure porte le numéro : A.1 - 039,225 et est en état SUP+. Il s'agit donc du plus bel exemplaire connu à ce jour dans l'inventaire FBOW.

March was the month of discovery ... On March 16, I found on delcampe.fr an interesting banknote. This time it is the smallest known number for the 100 francs Marianne type 1943 (Reference: Dessal-Fayette: VF06.01, Pick: 105a or Schwan-Boling: 116). This one realized the price of € 46,50 (See the sale: here).

I was once again eager to purchase it! The banknote in F grade is estimated at €40 in the latest catalog Dessal-Fayette and bears the number: PG 000,781.

The smallest number known to date was PG 002,014, a difference of 11233 banknotes! So it's a fantastic leap to the smallest possible number.

Mars était bien le mois des trouvailles... Le 16 mars dernier, j'ai trouvé sur delcampe.fr un billet intéressant. Il s'agit cette fois du plus petit numéro connu pour le 100 francs Marianne type 1943 (Référence : Dessal-Fayette: VF06.01, Pick: 105a ou Schwan-Boling : 116). Le billet en petit état et estimé à 40 euros dans le dernier catalogue Dessal-Fayette porte le numéro : PG 000,781.

On March 10th on ebay France, a note of  2 francs (Trésorerie aux armées)type 1917 (Reference: Dessal-Fayette: VF05.03 or Pick: M3) was offered for sale at the purchase price of €4,50 (See the sale: here).

Of course, I was eager to buy it! The banknote is in F grade and is estimated at € 150 in the latest Dessal-Fayette catalog. But its value is more important in rarity, because in 17 years of collection, it is only the 9th copy that I meet for ... the letter C and it is the second lowest number.

Dear collectors, with patience and a little luck from time to time, everything is there and inevitably by breaking his piggy bank!

Le 10 mars dernier sur ebay France, un billet de 2 Francs (Trésorerie aux armées) type 1917 (Référence : Dessal-Fayette: VF05.03 ou Pick : M3) a été proposé à la vente au prix d'achat immédiat de 4,50 euros (Voir la vente : ici).

Je me suis bien-sûr empressé d'en faire l'acquisition ! Le billet est TB et est estimé à 150 € dans le dernier catalogue Dessal-Fayette. Mais sa valeur est plus importante en rareté, car en 17 ans de collection, c'est seulement le 9e exemplaire que je rencontre pour... la lettre C et il s'agit du 2e plus petit numéro.

Chers collectionneurs, avec de la patience et un peu de chance de temps en temps, tout se trouve et pas forcément en cassant sa tirelire !

A counterfeit note of 1000 francs (Suez) type 1956 (Fayette Ref : # VF43.1, Pick: # M18 or Schwan-Boling: # 853) is on sale on delcampe at the price of € 850.

The note is undoubtedly a forgery and I thank the seller for having made a photo in detail of the overprinted text: "FRENCH FORCES IN THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN".

The typography of the letters does not correspond to the banknotes I have in collection. I unfortunately did not find the 1,000 francs note without the overprint (Reference: Fayette: # VF33.1, Pick: # M10 or Schwan-Boling: # 835), but this is the first time that the alphabet L.1 is proposed for sale. This alphabet is unknown in my inventory. I therefore advise caution to collectors regarding the acquisition of this note!

Un faux billet de 1000 francs (Suez) type 1956 (Réf. Fayette : VF43.1, Pick : M18 ou Schwan-Boling : 853) est en vente sur delcampe au prix de 850 €.

Le billet est sans aucun doute un faux et je remercie le vendeur d'avoir fait une photo en détail du texte en surcharge : "FORCES FRANCAISES EN MEDITERRANEE ORIENTALE".

La typographie des lettres ne correspond pas aux billets que j'ai en collection. Je n'ai malheureusement pas retrouvé le billet de 1000 francs sans la surcharge (Référence : Fayette: VF33.1, Pick: M10 ou Schwan-Boling: 835), mais c'est la première fois que l'alphabet L.1 est proposé en vente. Cet alphabet est inconnu de mon inventaire. Je conseille donc la prudence aux collectionneurs concernant l'acquisition de cette coupure !

A very very rare banknote 10NF on 1000 francs Trésor Public type 1960 (Reference: Dessal-Fayette: VF38.1 or Schwan-Boling: 845) is currently offered for sale in the next Live Auction of cgb.fr from April 2019 (See the sale: here).

This is only the 13th known copy for the type and it is estimated at €1500-2200 for F/VF grade. Dear collectors, do not let this rare note go by, before waiting a long time to get it into your binders!

Il s'agit seulement du 13e exemplaire connu pour le type et celui-ci est estimé à 1500-2200 euros pour un état Pr TTB. Chers collectionneurs, il ne faut pas laisser passer ce billet rare, avant d'attendre encore très longtemps pour le rentrer dans vos classeurs !

It is very difficult at the moment to see clearly in the jungle of the banknote "GRADING". As for war banknotes and Emergency notes for the periods of 1870, 1914 and 1940, I discovered a few days ago that the Grading companies are not all on the same line. Indeed, I note for example that the company PMG has graded several 100 francs Saint-Omer type 1940 (Ref: # BU93.1 or Schwan-Boling: # 551) and a copy is currently on sale on ebay. See the sale: here).

On this subject, the company PCGS has a very different policy and the announcement in this way on its website: "Most of the banknotes issued temporarily during war time or revolutionary period are not suitable for  grading" (see illustration below).

If I understand correctly, assignats of the eighteenth century are also concerned by this ban! What qualitative value can we then give to our 100 francs Saint-Omer Series A No. 2898 (see illustration below) and graded "66 EPQ Gem Uncirculated"?

Il est bien difficile actuellement d'y voir clair  dans la jungle du "GRADING" de billet. Concernant les billets de guerre et de nécessité pour les périodes de 1870, 1914 et 1940, j'ai découvert il y a quelques jours que les sociétés de Grading ne sont pas toutes sur la même ligne de conduite. En effet, je note par exemple que la société PMG a gradé plusieurs billets de 100 francs Saint-Omer type 1940 (Ref : BU93.1 ou Schwan-Boling : 551) et dont un exemplaire est actuellement en vente sur ebay. Voir la vente : ici).

Sur ce sujet, la société PCGS a une toute autre politique et l'annonce de cette manière sur son site internet : "La plupart des billets issus provisoirement durant les guerres ou les périodes révolutionnaires ne sont pas éligibles pour un grading" (voir illustration ci-dessous).

Si j'ai bien compris, les assignats du XVIIIe siècle sont donc également concernés par cette interdiction ! Quelle valeur qualitative peut-on alors accorder à notre 100 francs Saint-Omer Série A N°2898 (voir illustration ci-dessous) et gradé "66 EPQ Gem Uncirculated" ?

For a few days, a SPECIMEN banknote # 42 of the 500 francs (Marianne) type 1945 (Fayette Ref : # VF.11 docs 00Ssn, Pick: # 106s or Schwan-Boling: # 131s) is on sale on ebay at a price of $ 1200,00 (see the sale: here).

This is the 14th banknote referenced in the FBOW inventory (see: here).

In new "Dessal-Fayette", the note is listed € 900 in AU grade and € 1400  in UNC grade. The asking price is therefore in the range, or even lower. An opportunity to seize!

Depuis quelques jours, un billet SPECIMEN N°42 du 500 francs (Marianne) type 1945 (Réf. Fayette : VF.11 docs 00Ssn, Pick : 106s ou Schwan-Boling : 131s) est en vente sur ebay au prix de 1200 $ (voir la vente : ici).

C'est le 14e  billet référencé dans l'inventaire FBOW (à voir : ici).

Dans nouveau "Dessal-Fayette", le billet est coté 900 € en SPL et 1400 € en NEUF. Le prix demandé est donc dans la fourchette, voir même inférieur. Une occasion à saisir !

The season of fake Suez resumes! Since yesterday January 13, 2019, a counterfeit banknote of 100 francs (Suez) type 1956 (Ref Fayette: # VF42.1, Pick: # M17 or Schwan-Boling: # 852) is on sale on ebay at the starting price of 1 euro (see the sale: here).

The note is perfectly wrong since I have the chance to have the real banknote J.1 - 23104 (see below) without the surcharges in my personal score, currently 916 notes of 100 francs French Treasury referenced (Ref. Fayette: # VF32.1, Pick: # M09, Schwan-Boling: # 834).

I will warn the seller, who may have been abused. Do not throw the stone!

La saison des faux Suez reprend ! Depuis hier 13 janvier 2019, un faux billet de 100 francs (Suez) type 1956 (Réf. Fayette : VF42.1, Pick : M17 ou Schwan-Boling : 852) est en vente sur ebay au prix de départ de 1 euro (voir la vente : ici).

Le billet est parfaitement faux puisque j'ai la chance d'avoir le véritable billet J.1 - 23104 (voir-ci-dessous) sans les surcharges dans mon pointage personnel, soit actuellement 916 billets du 100 francs Trésor Français référencés (Réf. Fayette : VF32.1, Pick : M09, Schwan-Boling : 834).

Je vais prévenir le vendeur, qui s'est peut-être fait abuser. Ne lui jetons pas la pierre trop tôt !
